Bring on the Spring Mystery Shawl!

It's that time of the year again: get ready for a springtime mystery shawl!

What the What?

Spring It On! is a joyous asymmetrical triangle shawl that plays with colors, textures, and stitch patterns. Some stitch patterns come only as row-by-row written instructions, some are also charted.

And this year there's going to be even more mystery! There are a few points in the pattern where you can choose your own adventure. Easy and mindless? Choose Option 1. Something a little more interesting? Choose Option 2. At the end of the mystery you’ll have a completely unique spring shawl — with your colors and your choices.

When Does It Start?

The mystery starts on Monday, April 1. The pattern is released in five clues, with a new clue coming out every Monday in April.

The first two clues are small and quick to knit but they get a little bigger towards the end.

● Clue 1: April 1 — approx. 13% of the shawl

● Clue 2: April 8 — 13%

● Clue 3: April 15 — 25%

● Clue 4: April 22 — 27%

● Clue 5: April 29 — 22%

What Do I Need?

This mystery shawl is knit in three colors of fingering-weight yarn. I used Samelin Dyeworks Silky Singles (70% superwash merino, 30% silk, 400 m/100 g, 437 yd/3.53 oz) and like last year, kits are available on the Samelin Dyeworks store on Etsy. I used a very spring-y yellow/green color combination of Quack-quack, Ogre, and Hunter.

You're going to need:

● Color A: approx. 315 m / 345 yd

● Color B: approx. 355 m / 385 yd

● Color C: approx. 300 m / 325 yd

Pick three colors that go well together and have a good amount of contrast between them. You can arrange colors from lightest to darkest or vice versa. I recommend solid, semi-solid, or subtly speckled yarns for Colors A and B. Color C can be more variegated or wildly speckled.

And if you want to do some stashbusting, you can also use scrap yarns, minis, or replace one of the colors with a gradient set. The pattern lends itself well to pretty imaginative color combinations.

In addition to yarn you need 3.5 mm / US #4 circular needles (or size to obtain gauge), two stitch markers, and an adventurous mind!

Prizes

Towards the end of the KAL I'll open a finished objects thread in my Ravelry group. Post a photo of your finished shawl in the Finished Shawls thread by May 12, 2019. I will do a random draw and pick 3 lucky knitters. Each winner gets a free pattern from my Ravelry store, a project bag from Chameli Designs, and a set of stitch markers from Ruskanlehti.

How Do I Join the MKAL?
