Evighet Sock Knitalong

The Evighet socks first came out this spring in the Finnish crafts magazine Suuri Käsityö in their March 2020 issue. The rights for the pattern have now reverted back to my and I'm happy to announce the sock pattern is available for purchase on Ravelry!

The magazine version of the pattern only comes in one size. I've extended the size range in the Ravelry version and now the pattern is available in three sizes: S (62 sts), M (66 sts), and L (70 sts). And the pattern is naturally offered in both Finnish and English.

Making knitting patterns size inclusive is an increasing trend, and sock patterns should be no exception. With multiple sizes another addition to my sock patterns is a schematic, like the one below.

The schematic visualizes the finished measurements of the different parts of the sock. It also shows which elements are fixed in length and which ones are adjustable. To accommodate for varying foot sizes, I usually try to make the foot and leg lengths either fully adjustable or adjustable within pattern.

The Evighet socks are knit in fingering-weight yarn from the toe up in a delicate stitch pattern made of lace and twisted stitches. The undulating stitch pattern reminded me of dried, pressed flowers. The yarn I used for the sample is Lanitium Ex Machina Basic Sock (75% wool, 25% nylon, 420 m/100 g) in a subtle, ever so slightly semi-solid pink colorway called Swan Lake. A perfect match for the romantic stitch pattern!

The socks are my favorite sock construction: from the toe up with gusset increases and a Widdershins Revisited heel. The heel flap is worked in a variation of twisted ribbing. The heel flap morphs seamlessly into the stitch pattern on the leg, and then flows beautifully into a short twisted-rib cuff.

Depending on the size you're knitting, a different number of pattern repeats are worked in the leg. But it's really easy to adjust the leg length just be doing an extra repeat or two.

As one knitalong ends, another begins! The Evighet KAL that starts today and lasts until the end of May 2020. I've already got the perfect yarn in mind for pair #2... Join the KAL in my Ravelry group or on Instagram with the hashtag #evighetkal. See you there!
